Cutting Her Hair for Cancer

While this is an old story I thought I would share since we are coming into breast cancer awareness month. This also should have been a clue to me that this little girl of mine was going to be witty, feisty, and one of the most carrying people on the planet.

When Marly was in kindergarden she came home one day and this is what happened. I remember it like it was yesterday becuase she really just touched my heart.

Marly: (Walks out of her classroom) Mommmmmmmeeeee!

Me: Hi, Marly!

Marly: (As she hugs me) Can you take me to cut my hair?

Me: Why?

Marly: Because Heather has cancer and she is going to lose all of her hair. So we can just go cut mine. Then she can put some glue on her head with her glue stick and put my hair on her head.

Me: Well we can get your hair cut but it's going to be kinda short.

Marly: Well can they just cut all of my hair off and then me and Heather will match?

Me: Well we can go see if you have enough to give to her.

We drove straight from school to super cuts and she cut her hair off. She looked so darn cute and we donated her hair.

The Crown

Marly runs cross country and I might add that she is an extremly great runner. She was once ranked nationally before a heel injury but that is another story. So every morning Marly goes to cross country practice and as she gets out of the car today this is what transpired.

Marly: Mom see that girl over there?

Me: Yes, what about her?

Marly: Well she thinks she is queen bee of the track and it's time for me to go steal her crown.

Me: How are you going to do that?

Marly: Easy Mom, just run but before I do can you put this on my back.

Marly then hands me a sticker with the #2.

Marly: Even though I can run a heck of a lot faster than her I am going to stay just in fron of her so the whhhhoooooole time she can look at the #2. Then maybe she will get the message on who wears the crown.

Me: Don't you think that is a bit mean?

Marly: If she was a nice person then I wouldn't do it. But I think today is the day to shut her up. Have a good day Mom, love you.

Slams the door and walks away with the #2 right in the middle of her back.

It's now 8:49 cross country is over and I didn't get any phone calls so I guess I am safe....

Not Funny

Me looking at Marly this morning.

Marly: What?

Me: So what are you going to say today?

Marly: Mom it has to be in the moment. Or was that funny?

Me: Oh Marly I love you!

Marly: I love you too Mom, and by the time I get home from school I am sure I will have something. You do realize that you send me into chaos everyday. I am still trying to figure out how you think that is OK?

The Yawn

Standing in line at a convenience store.

Man behind us yawns really loud. I am not looking at him but Marly is.

Marly: Sounds like you had a long night?

Man: (Laughs) Yeah! I know how you feel

Marly Yeah me too! Well have a good day and get some rest!

Me: Leave really never looking at the man because I am laughing so hard.

Hair Color

As I am sitting at my computer...

Marly: Mom, look!

Me : Look over at Marly and she throws me a box of hair color.

Marly: Do you know what that is?

Me: Yes.

Marly: Oh, because the top of your head looks like you forgot.

Oh how I love my child!

Marly

Many of you know that Marly says some of the craziest things. I have been told, "you should write a book" or "you should have a blog". So here is my attempt to start blogging about all of the funny and quirky things that Marly says.
